Norm Chow will be the next University of Hawaii football coach, the Star-Advertiser is reporting.

Chow, 65, currently is the offensive coordinator at the University of Utah. He is a Punahou graduate who has coached college football at Brigham Young, USC, Norte Dame and North Carolina State.

The Star-Advertiser reports that the university administration has given the green light for athletic director Jim Donovan to negotiate a contract with Chow. He was among five finalists interviewed over the weekend.

Chow replaces Greg McMackin, who had been the highest paid state government employee with a $1.1 million base salary. UH announced McMackin’s retirement Dec. 5. He had one season remaining on his five-year contract, and accepted a $600,000 buyout.
