President Barack Obama will stay in Washington while his family flies to Hawaii this month so that he can continue pushing for an extension of the payroll tax, according to Democratic leadership.
“Michelle and the girls are going to have a great time in Hawaii, they don’t need me there,” Obama told Democratic leaders, according to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.
The White House says Obama’s payroll tax plan would result in $800 million in tax savings among Hawaii residents.
