White House Press Secretary Jay Carney had little to offer reporters who asked about the president’s Christmas travel plans on Wednesday. Barack Obama has delayed his trip to Oahu, where his family is now staying, amid an impasse over extending a payroll tax cut.

“I don’t have any scheduling updates to give you,” Carney told reporters at the White House. “We are obviously in a pretty fluid situation.”

Carney emphasized that Obama has made clear to House Speaker John Boehner that he expects the House to take up a bipartisan Senate bill that would extend the tax cut for 160 million American workers.

According to the Capitol Hill newspaper Roll Call, Boehner has said that he believes Obama should call the Senate back to Washington to resume negotiations.
