The University of Hawaii is expected to name a new head football coach this week, according to the Star-Advertiser (subscription needed).

The paper’s Stephen Tsai has been closely following the developments, and reports that UH conducted interviews over the weekend with the following five applicants:

  • Duane Akina, assistant head coach at the University of Texas
  • Mark Banker, defensive coordinator at Oregon State University
  • Norm Chow, offensive coordinator at the University of Utah
  • Dirk Koetter, offensive coordinator for the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars
  • Brian Norwood, associate head coach at Baylor University

The Warriors’ most recent coach, Greg McMackin, had been the highest paid state government employee with a $1.1 million base salary. UH announced McMackin’s retirement Dec. 5. He had one season remaining on his five-year contract, and accepted a $600,000 buyout.
