There’s a new push to remove the ban on fireworks here in Honolulu. And while it won’t get the job done in time for New Year’s Eve, just a few days away now, maybe it’ll spark some discussion in 2012.
A new petition is up on Change.org. As of this writing, it has three signature, leaving a long way toward the goal of 10,000. It was started by Haleiwa resident TaraMarie Panoke.
Inside Honolulu became aware of the push when a new Twitter user followed us today. @UnBanFireworks has just three followers and seven tweets. But the movement seems to be just hours old.
What do you think — Should Honolulu lift the ban on fireworks and allow what has become a cultural practice? Or did officials have it right the first time when they moved to protect the environment and air quality?
