A nun who dedicated her life to caring for exiled leprosy patients on Molokai is a step closer to sainthood after the Vatican recommended her canonization on Tuesday.
Blessed Marianne Cope succeeded Father Damien in caring for leprosy patients at Kalaupapa. She died of natural causes and was buried there. The Syracuse Post-Standard has more on the story and the second miracle the Vatican attributed to her.
