$1.4 Million For Helping Native Hawaiians Prepare Their Kids For Life

The University of Hawaii at Manoa’s College of Education Center on Disability Studies received a $1.4 million grant to help Native Hawaiians prepare their children for school.

The grant will fund the center’s four-month-old Project SPIRIT (Supporting Parents in Responsive Interactions and Teaching), that focuses on developing the relationship between parents and their children as a foundation for the child’s “cognitive development and social-emotional functioning,” states a press release from UH.

The project will impact families in Waimanalo and the Waianae Coast.
