Ravaged forests, a reduced water supply, coral reef destruction — these are a few of the impacts that invasive species and roaming animals are having on Hawaii’s watersheds

Gov. Neil Abercrombie pushed the legislature to approve $5 million for protection measures carved out in this year’s budget at his annual State of the State address on Monday. 

It’s a major initiative of the Department of Land and Natural Resources, which is working with legislators this year on bills to address the problem.
