After watching the last State of the Union address that he will have attended as a U.S. senator, Daniel Akaka acknowledged that it was an emotional night for him. Akaka is not seeking re-election this year.

“This was a special time for me because, after all the state of the union speeches over the years, this was my last,” Akaka said in an interview with DC808. “I felt President Obama, who you’ll recall is a Hawaii keiki o ka aina, covered all of the areas so well tonight.”
