honolulu-politics:

His attempt to reinsert a bill requiring the labeling of genetically modified foods back into the counties’ legislative package failed in December.

So Honolulu City Council member Tom Berg is trying a different tack.

Berg on Wednesday introduced a new resolution urging the Hawaii Legislature to require signage near GMO foods.

The resolution would likely be heard by the Committee on Safety, Economic Development and Government Affairs, if at all, but it’s not on the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting.

That means it’ll probably have to wait until at least February, which is after the filing deadline for bills at the Legislature.

Of course, some enterprising state lawmaker might take up the cause even without urging from the Honolulu City Council. After all, Hawaii’s three other counties approved a version of the package with the GMO labeling bill included.
