honolulu-politics:

Honolulu’s mayoral election is going to be a rematch.

Former Acting Mayor Kirk Caldwell will announce his intent to challenge Honolulu Mayor Peter Carlisle on Thursday.

Carlisle beat Caldwell and Panos Prevedouros in 2010. The twist this year could be whether former Gov. Ben Cayetano, an anti-rail advocate,  also jumps into the race. He would turn the election into a referendum on rail.

The Caldwell campaign is keeping details of the announcement close to the vest for now. Cayetano could make a decision any day now.
