Details about Kirk Caldwell‘s campaign announcement are starting to emerge.

He’ll formally announce his run for mayor and take questions from the media Thursday morning. The event is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at the Middle Street Transit Center.

That new facility was dedicated less than three months ago by the man who beat Caldwell in the 2010 mayoral election, current Mayor Peter Carlisle. You can read all about it in our October story titled ‘Intermodal Pete’ and the Tale of Two Bus Stations.

Carlisle may have opened the station for business, but work began under the prior administration. Mufi Hannemann broke ground in September 2009, not too long after he made Caldwell his managing director.

The transit center was designed to one day be a key cog in the rail system, so maybe Caldwell is going to try to claim some of the credit for progress on that project?

We’ll have more on that and other Caldwell-Carlisle thoughts in the morning.
