Former Gov. Ben Cayetano has floated his name out there as a potential anti-rail choice for mayor. What do voters think?

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser is trying to find out. In a poll on its website today, the newspaper asked readers: “Would you like to see former Gov. Ben Cayetano enter this year’s race for Honolulu mayor?”

The results, as of this writing: 54 percent said yes, 46 percent said no, and 1,534 votes have been cast.

That might be promising for Cayetano if wanting him to run equates to a promise to vote for him against sitting Mayor Peter Carlisle. Of course, the two sentiments aren’t interchangeable.

More importantly, it’s an unscientific poll, so take two grains of salt.
