The Budget Committee has just approved a resolution authorizing the city to apply for federal grant funding for homeless services.

Thing is, the city already applied — back in October. And the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development already approved the funding — $8.9 million worth.

That’s “a little more” than the city usually gets for the grant because HUD uses a formula that includes housing costs.

The Department of Community Services is also waiting on perhaps $500,000 more for new programs that can be funded under the grant. It might hear back from HUD in the spring or summer.
