As if being rejected from one of your top-pick colleges weren’t traumatizing enough.

A handful of college-bound seniors got notified they were accepted to Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. And a few hours later, some of those same seniors learned they didn’t actually get in.

The acceptance letter posted to their applications was a mistake, said officials from the colleg. Devastating for some who had already begun celebrating and even considering withdrawing applications elsewhere.

“Accepted at 4, reject at 5,” wrote one student on a website called College Confidential board. “I don’t understand.”
