Our Katherine Poythress has details of the new Hawaii teachers contract and a copy of the letter union president Wil Okabe wrote his members.

The deal appears to address concerns raised by the federal Department of Education about the state’s lack of progress on its Race to the Top promises. The provisions about annual evaluations and performance-based pay would make it possible for state education officials to live up to their commitments.
