The deadline for campaign contributions and expenditures from the second half of 2011 isn’t until next week, but you’re allowed to file early.
District 1 Honolulu City Council member Tom Berg did just that, filing his paperwork on Jan. 5.
Berg raised $0 between July and December. He raised the same amount between January and June of last year, giving him a donut for 2011.
He did spend $359 last month on business cards and T-shirts for the campaign. He paid for that with a personal loan to the campaign, which is now about $30,000 in debt heading into the election year.
Berg’s the only apparent Council candidate to file early, as of today. We’ll have more financial reports from other incumbents and the announced challengers next week.
