Board of Education Finance Committee members opted to defer discussion of a proposal that would allow advertising on school property.

Committee member Nancy Budd said the idea of commercialism in schools made her uncomfortable, and suggested the board and its policy review task force consider the matter before sending it to the appropriate committees.

Lupenui suggested that in the meantime, board members could read a policy brief on schoolhouse commercialism, published by the National Education Policy Center.

The board is now pau with today’s committee meetings.
