Rep. Mazie Hirono’s office issued a statement on Sunday, the one-year anniversary of the Tuscon shooting that killed six people and injured more than one dozen others, including Rep. Gabrelle Giffords.

“At the victims’ memorial in Tucson last year, President Obama urged us to honor their memory through our actions, reminding us that the youngest victim, Christina Taylor Green, ’saw public service as something exciting and hopeful…undimmed by the cynicism or vitriol that we adults all too often just take for granted,’ Hirono wrote. ”Today and every day, we should all work to make our democracy as good as our children imagine it.”
