Rep. Mazie Hirono issued a statement expressing frustrating about House legislation that would block President Barack Obama‘s request to raise the U.S. debt limit.

The increase is permitted under the Budget Control Act, the law that was passed after a drawn-out fight on Capitol Hill last summer. But the act also gives Congress the option to pass a new bill to stop such an increase.

Hirono said that her constituents have made it clear that they want “jobs, not games:”

“They want us to focus on creating jobs, not continuing the debate from last summer on whether the United States should pay its financial obligations,” Hirono said.

Hirono voted against the bill, which now goes to the U.S. Senate for consideration. Rep. Colleen Hanabusa also voted against it.
