In the press gallery, Mitch Kahle of Hawaii Citizens for the Separation of Church and State, listened passively.
On the Senate side, entertainer Danny Kaleikini was scheduled to deliver the invocation. Last session, the Senate halted its practice of invocations before every session, but the House decided to keep the tradition.
