Data show that Hawaii’s net loss of college students in 2008 (latest year of available data) was 1,499. That means that 2,724 high school grads from here left to go to college, while 1,225 from other states arrived to go to college here.
Other big exporters of college students: Texas, New Jersey and Illinois. Other states with a similar net loss to Hawaii’s: Michigan, Alaska and Washington.
