In a memo to Safety, Economic Development and Government Affairs Committee Chair Tulsi Gabbard, Police Chief Louis Kealoha writes that the cameras were helpful during APEC and allowed law enforcement to “make maximum use of our limited resources.”
Kealoha also said HPD made good on its promise to not record unless the cameras observed lawbreaking — one of the snags that had some citizens worried about civil liberties.
“No recordings were made from the traffic and security cameras since the events monitored by the HPD ended peacefully or without incident,” he wrote.
