Sen. Jill Tokuda has scheduled an info briefing to learn more about the Department of Education’s options and preferences for reducing student transportation costs.
In addition to the report the school district had to submit earlier this year on school bus services, Tokuda has requested the following:
- Two-year targets for reducing bus transportation costs.
- A matrix of all the options being considered, including time frames for evaluation and implementation of each, estimated cost savings, and ability to increase competitive bids.
- Cost implications and ridership scenarios if the Legislature were to cover only 60 percent, 70 percent, 80 percent or 90 percent of the department’s supplemental budget request for home-to-school transportation.
