Legislators are scheduled to vote today on two key bills carried over from last session that would affect University of Hawaii, and will hold a press conference on them at about 12:30.

Senate Bill 239 would allow the University of Hawaii’s John A. Burns School of Medicine to continue using money from the Hawaii Tobacco Settlement Special Fund.

Senate Bill 809 increases University of Hawaii authorization to issue revenue bonds from a total principal amount not to exceed $200 million to a total amount not to exceed $300 million to fund UH construction projects in order to generate more jobs.

The Hawaii State Legislature sent out a press release about the bills:

At the conclusion of last year’s session, several conference bills were left on the table. However, House and Senate members continued to work during the interim in preparation for this year. That effort has resulted in the reconvening of the conference committees for the two bills, which are deemed of utmost importance for the state.
