No good news coming out of disaster-hit areas of the Philippines. At least five people have died of leptospirosis in the aftermath of Typhoon Washi in the southern Philippines.
The BBC reports:
According to the Department of Health, 128 people in Cagayan de Oro City have also been diagnosed as of 1 January.
Leptospirosis is caused by Leptospira bacteria found in water contaminated by animal urine in warmer climates.
Symptoms include fever and vomiting and may take an average of 10 days to develop.
