The issues are different — high-speed rail and urban commuter rail are not the same thing. But some of the arguments are the same.

So for folks watching Honolulu rail closely, the debate in the New York Times about the merits of California’s proposed high-speed rail system is worth keeping an eye on.

This particular “Room For Debate” has seven participants with a variety of views. Headlines for some of their short pieces range from “A Catalyst for Better Development” to “California Needs a Rail Project, but Not This One” and “A Waste of Money, for Years to Come.”
