Pronouncing Hawaiian Names
After introducing his chief information officer, Sonny Bhagowalia, Abercrombie makes a joke about TV shows mispronouncing local names.
(If I heard correctly he referenced the show “Lost,” no longer on the air, when he might have meant “Hawaii Five-0.”)
Departing from his text, the governor is reminded of his first day of teaching at UH Manoa — an East Coast haole dreading reading the names on the roll. The first is the name of a Hawaiian student, and Abercrombie says now he got it right.
