SHOPO President Tenari Maafala said Lingle was the best candidate to fight for law enforcement issues “in the White House.” He said Democrats Ed Case and Mazie Hirono did not seek SHOPO’s endorsement.
Lingle said she would fight for Social Security and Medicare rights for people current receiving those entitlements but warned that such entitlements were not fully sustainable in the long run.
UPDATE: Betsy Lin, campaign manager for Mazie for Hawaii, released this statement Monday afternoon:
Mazie’s record on fighting crime speaks for itself: she supported expanding the COPS program to help put 222 more Hawaii cops on the street in her district alone. When Republicans try to cut the COPS program like they’ve done time and again, Mazie will stand up in the Senate to keep law enforcement on the job.
