The earth is being hit by one of the strongest solar storms in years, which scientists say could last through Wednesday, the BBC reports

The charged particles can disrupt satellites, cause problems for aircraft traveling near poles and even electrical grids. 

As for Hawaii, HECO spokesman Peter Rosegg told Civil Beat that “we are watching the news but not with a high level of alarm.”
