This afternoon at 2, lawmakers will get the latest update on the status of Hawaii’s Race to the Top grant, which has been in jeopardy partially because of the state’s inability to negotiate a contract that teachers will ratify.

At a press conference last Friday, Gov. Neil Abercrombie renewed his commitment to the grant goals — including teacher evaluations — regardless of the union’s cooperation. On Tuesday, the Hawaii Department of Education issued a press release to the same effect. So we have a pretty good idea of what lawmakers will hear today.
