Around 96,000 University of Hawaii students, faculty, alumni and employees will get two years of credit monitoring and credit restoration services in the settlement of a class action lawsuit against UH for five alleged data breaches between 2009 and 2011.

UH denied liability in the settlement, but committed to “work diligently so that the chance of future data breaches is significantly reduced.”

The class lawyers said UH setting a positive example in Hawaii for organizations that may have to respond to data breaches in the future.
