Warning Posted; Eddie Could Be Held

Huge northwest swell arrives this afternoon. Waves of up to 35 feet are expected on North facing shores — waves big enough for the Eddie.

A high surf warning is in effect for north- and west-facing shores of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai and Maui until 6 a.m. Thursday. Surf along north and west shores of the Big Island will increase Tuesday night. …

 Each year, pro surfers wait to surf big winter swells in Hawaii. The new swell could give the Quiksilver In Memory of Eddie Aikau big-wave surfing contest a go ahead. The last contest ran in 2009 when waves reached up to 50 feet.
