First, it was Kirk Caldwell, who said that as mayor he’d make sure bus station bathrooms have soap. In fact, it was his first campaign promise.

Now, Ben Cayetano is getting in on the act. In today’s campaign announcement, he referenced restrooms in city parks with “filthy, leaking toilets” and “shamefully, in some cases, no toilet paper.”

Are the town’s toilets really so terrible? Are cleaner commodes really what Honolulu voters are clamoring for in the 2012 election? Since when is the Honolulu mayor supposed to worry about the washrooms?
