On the same day it hears a bill to tax sodas, Senate Health will also hear a bill to increase the general excise tax on cigarettes.
The bill, whose lead sponsor is Sen. Josh Green — a Big Isle medical doctor — leaves blank for now exactly how much the tax would be.
The excise tax is currently 16 cents per ciggie, the 11th increase since 1998, when it was just 5 cents.
