Today marks exactly one month since the city began enforcing what it’s calling the “stored property ordinance” against homeless people in Moiliili. What, if any, are the impacts?
We asked officials in the Housing Office, and got a written response from the mayor’s office. Here’s some data:
- From the SPO enforcement at Old Stadium, Moiliili, Pawaa areas – two people went into shelter and one couple was working with (Institute for Human Services) to get into the shelter but they needed to downsize all of their items.
- From the SPO enforcement at Kuwili and Iwilei areas – one couple and two single women went into IHS. Two couples were working with IHS but they had pets. Two other people were working with IHS and may go directly into housing.
- From the SPO enforcement at Thomas Square – three outreach intakes were completed and one of those three individuals checked in and completed a shelter intake.
Thursday also marked exactly 30 days since the first items were impounded, which means the city can start to throw away or auction the items stored at in Halawa.
