Gov. Neil Abercrombie was beaming when he emerged from a meeting with U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan yesterday.

A tweet at about 2 p.m. from @neilabercrombie’s Twitter account: “Gov Abercrombie spoke positively w/US DOE Sec Duncan about #Hawaii’s continued commitment to Race to the Top.”

Abercrombie spokeswoman Donalyn Dela Cruz tells us there’s no real news associated with the meeting, but that the governor was just reiterating his commitment to the federal education reforms Hawaii has promised.

“He has said this on the phone before, but this was the first time he went to Washington specifically to have time with Secretary Duncan,” she said. “It wasn’t a long meeting, but the governor was taking time to reaffirm Hawaii’s commitment, and I think Secretary Duncan was receptive to that.”
