Parks and Recreation Director Gary Cabato says Bill 5, introduced more than a year ago by Ikaika Anderson, would be a “travesty” and he would prefer to tweak parks rules to keep concessionaires from running wild.
Anderson, whose district includes the popular Kailua Beach Park, said he’s not inclined to wait for Cabato’s proposed rule changes to wind their way through city bureaucracy, because he wants a resolution before the busy summer season.
“Our community has been overrun by these activities,” Anderson said. “Going with status quo is going to be absolutely unacceptable.”
The committee is weighing an amendment, and will soon take public testimony.
