The Hawaii Supreme Court recently agreed to hear the lawsuit seeking to stop the rail project pending a completed archaeological survey for Native Hawaiian burials.
The case, filed by Paulette Kaleikini against various city and state officials and agencies, was thrown out by a state Circuit Court judge in March.
It was appealed to the intermediate appeals court, and Kaleikini’s attorneys asked the state’s highest court to intervene. That request was granted Jan. 17.
