Former Congressman Ed Case raised $111,590 last quarter, significantly less than his two best-known opponents in the Hawaii race for U.S. Senate.

Case spent $101,248 last quarter, according to a copy of the FEC report obtained by Civil Beat. He reported having $283,197 in cash on-hand.

The former congressman has struggled to keep up with Democratic opponent Rep. Mazie Hirono in fundraising, who pulled in more than five times as much as he did ($623,607) last quarter. Former Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle, the Republican frontrunner, has sprinted past both Case and Hirono in fundraising.

Case has criticized Lingle and Hirono for relying on money from special-interest groups. He took in $5,500 from political action committees last quarter. In contrast, Lingle got more than $266,000 from PACs, and Hirono received nearly $187,000 from special interest groups.
