Over 50 members of unions representing carpenters, painters, masons, heavy-equipment operators and laborers lined Beretania Street in front of the Capitol Friday morning (Feb. 10) to show their support for Senate Bill 2012 — the $500 million bond bill that could stimulate construction work across the state.

The group then migrated up to the second floor where Senate WAM was hearing the bill. It’s an overflow crowd outside Conference Room 221. Many of the workers told me they were out of work and were counting on SB 2012’s passage.

Lot of grumbling about Ben Cayetano‘s campaign for mayor, too. The fear he’ll stop the Honolulu rail project.

UPDATE: SB 2012 passed unanimously, with amendments.
