The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is giving the University of Hawaii $15,000 to study marine debris, the agency announced on Wednesday.
UH researchers will use the money to study plastic debris caught in the filters of ships’ cooling systems. According to a press release issued by the EPA, the goal is to develop methods and protocols to better monitor debris as ships cross the Pacific.
