More than 21,000 Hawaii residents saved nearly $7 million last year, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced on Thursday. A new report out of the department finds the average person with Medicare will save more than $4,000 by the year 2021 because of the new law.

UPDATED: 2/2/2012, 3:48 p.m. An earlier version of this post incorrectly identified the $7 million figure as projected savings for the next decade. The Department of Human Services report says that was the amount of savings among Hawaii residents in 2011.
