Senate Tourism will meet Monday (Feb. 13) at 9:15 a.m. in Conference Room 312 to hear House Bill 2788, which would grant a 20-year license for a stand-alone casino in Waikiki not in a hotel.

The bill’s chief sponsor is Speaker Emeritus Joe Souki; the measure includes the support of nine other House members, including Majority Leader Pono Chong.

HB 2788 would also do the following:

Establishes Hawaii Gaming Control Commission. Imposes fifteen per cent wagering tax on gross receipts. Creates State Gaming Fund and Compulsive Gambler Program.

In related news, a Senate informational briefing on the impacts of gambling scheduled for this Friday (Feb. 10) has been canceled.
