Washington-based political analyst Jennifer Duffy, of Cook Political Report, raised an interesting question about fundraising in a recent interview with Civil Beat:

“My question about (U.S. Senate candidate Rep. Mazie) Hirono‘s money is how much is available for the primary? If people are maxing out for both primary and the general, the real number (available to her to fight Democratic opponent Ed Case) may be much less formidable.”

A spokeswoman for Hirono told DC808 that 90 percent of the money that the congresswoman has raised — nearly $1.2 million out of more than $1.3 million — is for the primary.

Hirono and Case will face off in an August Democratic primary ahead of the general election.
