Mayor Peter Carlisle has called a 2:30 p.m. press conference today to announce what his PR team is describing as “APEC savings.”
Carlisle will be flanked by Police Chief Louis Kealoha, Fire Chief Ken Silva and other officials.
A week before the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, the Honolulu City Council asked the federal government for $37 million to cover the cost of extra security for the event.
After the summit wrapped up, Carlisle said the city saved at least $10 million off of the $43 million it had budgeted for APEC-related costs.
