One of those two transit-related bills at the Ledge is already stopped in its tracks.

House Bill 2756, which would fast-track transit-oriented development by requiring counties to act on proposals near rail stations within a set number of days and exempting those projects from ordinary zoning and land use laws, was recommended for deferral today by the House Transportation Committee.

The committee is chaired by Maui Rep. Joe Souki, who was not among the 15 lawmakers who cosponsored the bill.

It got the dreaded triple-referral, and so needs to overcome an early deferral fairly quickly if it hopes to pass this session.
