That’s the topic of an informational briefing Tuesday (Feb. 28) at the Capitol before Senate Public Safety, Government Operations and Military Affairs.

The Department of Public Safety and the Abercrombie Administration are expected to share their strategy and to address how it fits with “Justice Reinvestment Initiatives” and whether new facilities need to be built or old ones rehabilitated.

“Hawaii currently spends millions of dollars a year to house our inmates out of state,” says Senator Will Espero.
