Remember the $700,000 that the Honolulu Police Department spent on things like pepper spray projectiles, bean bag ammunition, Taser cartridges and “sound cannons” in anticipation of violent protests during gathering of world leaders here in Honolulu?
Fortunately, none of that high-tech riot gear was needed in November. But HPD has a plan for the equipment, according to KHON:
Meanwhile, all of the security equipment purchased by HPD in preparation for the summit is being used to create a ‘Major Events Bureau’. The new bureau will be charged with providing security for all major gatherings on Oahu.
