House Judiciary will meet at 2 p.m. in Conference Room 325. The agenda includes two measures that are in response to recent rulings by the State Ethics Commission that didn’t sit well with some legislators and others.

House Bill 2455, introduced by Speaker Calvin Say at the request of the Abercrombie administration, would do this:

Excepts members of groups convened solely to provide comments, share technical knowledge or expertise, or assist in formulating recommendations to, with or for the Legislature, Governor, or other state departments, agencies, or boards, from chapter 84, Hawaii Revised Statutes, State Ethics Code.

The Ethics Commission opposes HB 2455.

House Bill 2457, also introduced by Say at the request of the governor, would do this:

Exempts from restrictions on gifts under the ethics code invitations or complimentary tickets to a widely attended charitable event from a charitable entity, whether or not the charitable entity is the host of the charitable event.
